Hatboro-Horsham Marching Unit Goes Back to Back!

HHMU DOES IT AGAIN!

On a freezing cold and windy night, the Hatboro-Horsham Marching Unit showed its grit, determination and character as well as their talents while taking home a second consecutive Cavalcade of Bands "Liberty Open" division Championship Sunday at Hersheypark Stadium.

In a night where all of the units had to overcome very difficult circumstances, the unit shined and had a phenomenal performance. That effort earned a score of 96.85 out of 100 to earn the units 4th title in 6 years. In addition, the unit took home the specialty awards for Best Visual, Best Overall Effect, Best Colorguard and Best Percussion.

"The kids really showed a lot of heart out there" said Unit director Tony Perez of the Unit's performance. "Wind and freezing cold are the nightmare for every director and instructor out there. In all of my years of teaching, these were the worst conditions I have seen". According to Perez, the units 71 members never faltered once they stepped on the field. "They stood tall, they stood confident and looked prepared. This is why we rehearse hard in poor conditions. Because ANYTHING can happen at Championships and you don't get a 'do-over'. It is still your last performance and the end of 6 months of hard work. These conditions can either be an excuse for a poor performance, or they can be proof that we are the best prepared".

The unit, led by 21 fantastic seniors skillfully performed their program "Two Households", which was an interpretation of the story of "Romeo and Juliet". The program which was arranged and designed completely by the Unit staff members included music by Sergei Prokofiev, Craig Armstrong and Nino Rota.
