Hatboro Horsham School District Announces 2013 Athletic Wall of Fame Inductees

HORSHAM – Hatboro-Horsham High School is proud to announce its newest inductees for 2013’s Athletic Wall of Fame.

Nominations for the Athletic Wall of Fame were presented during the summer, and reviewed by a Selection Committee composed of administrators, School Board members, community members, and current and former coaches and teachers.

“These athletes’ achievements represent the contribution of their skill and time to the Hatboro-Horsham High School sports program,” said Principal Dennis William, Jr.  “We are proud to honor the commitment, talent, and accomplishments of these individuals and teams, and to recognize how they aided our school’s ability to win in various competitive sports arenas.”

The inductees for this year are:

·         The 2008 Lady Hatters Softball Team

·         Jennifer Repkoe – Class of 1991 – Softball, Basketball & Field Hockey

·         Chad Liott – Class of 1994 – Wrestling

·         Daniel McKay – Class of 1997 – Cross Country, Track & Field

·         Jennifer Purvis – Class of 2007 – Field Hockey & Lacrosse

·         Kerry Swayne – Class of 2007 – Cross Country, Track & Field

·         Taylor Swezey – Class of 2007 – Field Hockey & Lacrosse

·         Courtney Zingle – Class of 2007 – Softball

·         Steve Topper – Class of 2008 – Cross Country, Track & Field

 

Below is a brief summary of each inductee:

The 2008 Lady Hatters Softball Team

The team won the 2008 PIAA State Softball Championship and finished the year with an overall record of 25-2. They boasted a league record of 18-1, District Playoff record of 3-1 and won four straight games in the State Playoffs to capture the first PIAA State Softball Championship in the school’s history. Every starting player on the team received All-League recognition, and six members of the team were named All-State, including the PIAA Class 4A Player of the Year.

 

Jennifer Repkoe

Jennifer was a four-year starter in basketball, in the All-Suburban One League selection, and 1,000-point scorer – an achievement accomplished by only five other female athletes.  She was also an All-League selection in Softball, and batted .420 for the Suburban One League Champions in her senior year.

 

Chad Liott

Chad has 111 career wins and is the school’s first four-time sectional champion. He is also a two-time District One Champion, two-time regional champion and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1993 & 1994.

 

Daniel McKay

A varsity letter winner in Cross Country and track & field every year that he competed, Daniel also earned All-League recognition every year. As a three-time Cross Country state qualifier and three-time winter track state qualifier, he also holds the indoor mile record at 4:16 and the outdoor 1600-meter record with a time of 4:08. Daniel was also a two-time runner-up at the Penn Relays and was a two PIAA State Champion in the 1600-meter run.

 

Jennifer Purvis

Jennifer was the first athlete in our school’s history named an All-American in two different sports. She was a two-time All-American selection in Field Hockey, two-time 1st Team All-State selection, three-time All-Conference and All-Intelligencer selection, not to mention Captain, MVP, Academic All-American and All-State selection and a member of the Olympic Development Team. In Lacrosse she excelled to All-American selection, holds the all-time scoring record at Hatboro-Horsham and the freshman varsity scoring record at the school. In Lacrosse, she was named 1st Team All-Area, All-Suburban and All-Intelligencer three times, as well as Academic All-State, Captain, MVP and was selected to the National Tournament team which was ranked #2 in the nation.

 

Kerry Swayne

A four-year letter winner in Cross Country, Kerry was part of a PIAA State Championship team and earned a 12th place State medal of her own. Throughout high school, she earned 13 State medals in Cross Country and Track – three of them were gold medals. She also received 1st Team All-League honors through all four years and still holds the school record in the 1,600-meter run and as a member of the 4 x 1600-meter and the 4 x 800-meter relay teams (the 5th fastest in PA history at the time).

 

Taylor Swezey

Taylor holds 8 varsity letters in Field Hockey, Lacrosse and Soccer, and was an All-American in Field Hockey. She also was a member of the Olympic Developmental Field Hockey Team, garnered three 1st Team All-State awards, 1st Team All-League Awards and numerous MVP and honors in Field Hockey, where she was also an Academic All-State selection. All-Inquirer, All-Intel, and MVP.  Twice she was on the 1st Team All-League selection in Lacrosse, and by making the decision to play soccer as a junior, she was again named an All-League decision.

 

Courtney Zingle

Beyond receiving four varsity letters in Softball, Courtney was also on the All Suburban One League selection as a sophomore, junior and senior. An All-Southeastern PA (Inquirer) selection as a junior and All-State Selection, she led Southeastern PA in homeruns. As a senior she was selected All-State, All-Intelligencer, All-Area, All-Southeastern PA (Inquirer) and Team MVP.

 

Steve Topper

Recipient of four State medals as a varsity athlete, Steve was Captain of the Track & Field and Swimming Team. He is the school’s record holder for the 300 IM Hurdles and part of the 400-meter free relay for swimming. In his senior year, he was a state medalist in Cross Country, Swimming and received two State medals as a hurdler in Track.

 

About the Ceremony & The Athletic Wall of Fame:

A ceremony and awards dinner will be hosted in October, where each inductee will be added to the Athletic Wall of Fame, which was launched in 2008.  The Wall was created in order to honor athletes, coaches, teams, and others who have achieved athletic accomplishments of the highest caliber, demonstrated leadership, or supported athletic programs.
