Blair Mill to Host 5K to Support Student Fitness

The first ever Blair Mill Elementary School Wellness Committee 5K will be May 3 at Lukens Park.

Lace up those running shoes because the Blair Mill 5K and 1 Mile Family Walk is just around the corner. The first ever Blair Mill Elementary School Wellness Committee 5K will be May 3 at Lukens Park. The course will cover a portion of the Horsham power line trail beginning at 8:30 a.m. Race day registration opens at 7:30 am.

All funds raised by this event will support underprivileged families in the school community so their children can participate in organized sports and physical activities. The committee hopes this event will help encourage children in the community to get active.

“We felt this is a way to give back to our community and students, so those who can’t afford to participate in little league or similar programs can still join,” event chair and Blair Mill teacher Susanna Kiss said. “We want all students to have an equal opportunity to participate.”

Kiss said the Wellness Committee also has plans to fundraise over the next few years in order to purchase some new equipment for students to play with during recess and gym.

“You don’t have to run the 5K, you can also walk,” Kiss said. “The whole point is to get as many of our students and community members outside and active as much as possible.”

In addition to the 5K and walk, there will be many vendors with kid-friendly activities, such as Hatters Baseball Clinic, Giant Health and Wellness, WAGS and the Doylestown Rock Gym. In order to participate in the 5K, adults, age 17+, are $25 each for registration, while children, ages 5 to 16, are $10. To register, go to www.blairmill5k.com.

“We hope to encourage exercise through movement,” Kiss said. “Running and walking are activities that families can do together which promotes healthy lifestyles.”

Lukens Park is located at 540 Dresher Road in Horsham.
