John - You are a hypocrite and a joke.... "I own a scary dog because I am a wimp" blahRead More blah blah.... followed up with "sticking a 44 Ruger Redhawk up a butt". Who is the one hiding behind the scary object you candyass. You people who are on here blithering about a dog breed are clueless, pathetic, and beyond stupid. Worry about the little maggots you all breed and are raising (or supposed to be) and make sure they aren't terrorizing their neighborhoods. I read a story on here daily about some moron who slaps his girl around and where are you people? You are on here whining about dogs.... Focus on raising your kids not to be idiots like yourselves, and we will have a change that really matters. Heather - Don't even bother with these morons.... they are spineless candyasses who are less intelligent than 99% of Pit bulls. The more you respond to them, the more of a voice they have.

JD and others- Animals can act unpredictably but no less than humans. I actually think that theyRead More can be more predictable than humans it's just that humans may not be able to read some of their signs. Dogs use body language much more than humans and are in fact more predictable, if you can read the signals. Eye contact and turning of the head in dogs means a lot. Licking of there noses based on the situation is a sign of nervousness. Raise your voice a little to your dog, he will immediately lick his nose and may quickly divert his eyes from you. Body blocks by a dog of another is a way they assert themselves, looking away shows the other dog he has no bad intentions. The stiff frozen stare is an indication of a possible attack which can be a matter of seconds. As far as guardian breed ownership while it's not for everyone they are the base breeds that people have owned for years. The designer breeds of today are fine for apartments and I would never recommend a German Shepherd or Kangal Dog for anyone but a seasoned dog owner. There is nothing like a Rottweiler for me. To say you shouldn't own a dangerous breed is a misnomer. There is no such thing as a "Dangerous Breed". I have owned 4 Rottweilers and currently own 2 Pit Bulls. I can tell you I have never owned a dangerous dog. I can explain breeds to people in this way. A Great Dane and Chihuahua are the same species. The same way a body builder (not on steroids) and an inactive accountant are. The body builder (lets call him a Pit Bull or Rottie or Dobie because of his physical attributes)can do a lot of damage to you than the accountant. If the body builder is stabile he's not going to attack anyone unprovoked but yes he's capable of doing a lot more damage than the meek accountant. Do we therefore ban body building and people capable of doing damage to others. People also have guardian breeds because society is loaded with dirtbags. As far as your comment that we should trust the government to insure kids and the elderly be safe. The government can't do anything right. You are only assured that the government will do thing sincorrectly and more costly. If we relied totally on government the way our current president would like, we'd be doomed. That's the way it's done in some other countries. It's called Communism. Animals should be the responsibility of the owner and when they cause harm it's almost always the owners fault. If you don't socialize a dog properly then you better take action to make sure he doesn't get out. It's like having a gun that you just leave around the living room, loaded and you have little kids running around. It's not the guns fault and guns shouldn't be outlawed because morons don't keep them locked up. Drinking and driving fall under the same umbrella. You don't ban alcohol, guns and dog breeds based on idiots not doing the right things. That should be the right of being an American.

yes, Liberalism IS a mental disorder -- I heard a psychiatrist on the news discuss his book - it wasRead More his findings that over 90% of mentally sick patients all blathered liberal rants. Leftist philosophy is all emotion, while conservative is logical.

It's simply evidence (unfortunately) that inflation on the march & is never a good thing for theRead More middle class. A 7% increase in Home Prices means homes today are simply more un-affordable than last year. Couple this with the fact that Mortgage application rates are at 19-year LOWS while mortgage interest rates have never been lower all while food prices are UP 19% since January & meat's out of sight ... how's this something to celebrate?

Agreed but the problem we are running into here is at the end of the tragedy, you are told the dogRead More belongs to the child (usually a teenager) and the parents refuse to take any responsibility at all. Even to the extent of telling authorities themselves to put the dog down. It's disgusting the measures some take to avoid responsibility and get away with it! You are correct the laws are there for the law abiding citizens, the rest couldn't careless.
Jack Baillargeron April 16, 2014 at 04:57 pm
Doesn't matter, If the teen lives in the home or one the parents property they are responsible.Read More Their home owners insurance company can be sued as well. Putting the dog down does not negate the incident. It is like destroying the knife used to stab somebody. The stabber is still responsible. I am not a lawyer or anything like that but read enough cases and know enough victims as a Retired firefighter to know you can win on these things easily. Might not be able to get money from some of these people but you can get them banned from being able to own an animal again at the least in my opinion.
Jack Baillargeron April 16, 2014 at 05:05 pm
Would point out also that is the reason for getting leash law or town ordinances. They merely stateRead More the rule and have no age limitation. I have seen children walking a 40lb dog as young as 8 to 10. There is no way they could control that dog unless the dog has been very well trained along with the child being trained so the dog will obey it. Problem with society right now is that no one takes self-responsibility for their own action anymore (well any criminal activity or incidents like this). Idiot owners like to blame the dog also to negate their responsibility. Start throwing them in jail with sentences they would give to a person for doing what the dog does and you would have deterent. But there will always be some excuse. It sickens me to no end.

Boss Hog I see you changed your subtitle from "telling the whole story" to "helpingRead More people make decisions". Was that because I pointed out the FACT that you were NOT sharing the "whole story"? Let me point out something else, your NOT helping anyone with you simpleton approach to a Blog. I get it, you don't like certain dogs. It's your choice and your opinion. Your NON blog is just a collection of stories written by someone else and pictures that have nothing to do with the stories you recycle. It it exactly this biased reporting of a collection of horror stories about people being attacked that creates a fear of these dogs. Not all bully breed dogs are evil and bad. I feel bad for the people injured. It's terrible. But you neglect to tell the OTHERSIDE of the bully breeds. I personally know many pitbull type dogs that do good things but unfortunately we live in a drama addicted society so happy stories don't sell. you are in no way helping anyone. Try actually writing more than five bullet points about a terrible story. It would be nice to see some real discussion. It's unfortunate that many people hate these dogs based solely on the news instead of based on personal experience. I used to be that person until I actually met several pitbull dogs.

Hi Maya- I hopped back on this thread for one purpose- you and others on this thread have madeRead More sincere, intelligent comments. But you are ignoring the cardinal rule of the internet: Don't Feed the Trolls. Boss Hogg is a troll. His biased presentation of one sided material, "culled" (pun intended) from a broad, unrelated array of news sources, is classic trolling. Remember: Trolling is not just for the comments! The whole purpose of a blog can be to troll for outrage, and pageviews, as seems to be the case here.

You people all should get a life. By definition none of you who speak out against pit bulls haveRead More any first hand experience with pit bulls let alone owned, or taken care of one. My pit mix is the best, sweetest dog ever. And he was the eighth of seven prior fosters - some good, others great. I know there are bad dogs out there, and pits like any larger dog are powerful. So when they're bad, they're dangerous - but there's nothing unique to the breed that makes them so. By the way, my cocker spaniel/beagle mix is crazy and dangerous.
