Warminster Man Killed After Being Struck by Train

Former William Tennent student Scott Stevens, 24, of Warminster, was killed after being struck by a train in Upper Moreland Monday.

Scott Stevens, 24, of Warminster, was the by a Warminster-bound SEPTA Regional Rail train in Upper Moreland yesterday afternoon, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Stevens was walking north along the train tracks with headphones on his ears when a SEPTA train came around a curve and struck him, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Walter Hofman said Tuesday morning.

"The train operator blew the horn and slammed on the brakes but did not have enough time to stop fully," Hofman said.

The coroner believes Stevens was killed instantaneously.

Jerri Williams, a SEPTA spokeswoman, Monday told Patch the incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. when a southbound train was traveling underneath the overhead bridge of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the area of S. Warminster Road.

Stevens was a former William Tennent High School student, a friend of the victim confirmed.

Friends of the victim have taken to his Facebook profile with messages of remembrance.

One of Stevens' Facebook friends left this message on his profile:

"I don't even know what to say, this doesn't seen real. I feel like I just talked to you yesterday. I was hoping that this was all a stupid Facebook rumor, but after all of this I can't believe this many people would be wrong. You were a kind, loving person, and I'm so greatful that I knew you. My thoughts go out to all of your family and friends. You are already, and will continue to be missed. Rest in Peace"

The death caused several hours of delay in SEPTA service between Willow Grove and Warminster Monday afternoon as police investigated. Service on the line has since been resumed.

Stevens' death marks the third fatality on the tracks since summer.
