Witnesses Sought in Hatboro Vehicle Burglaries

Four vehicles parked at the Hatboro Area YMCA were broken into Wednesday evening, police said.

Did you happen to be in the area of the Hatboro YMCA sometime around or after dinner Wednesday night?

If so, you may be able to provide details to police about the break-in of four vehicles parked in the Y's lot at 440 S. York Road.

Sometime between 6:55 and 8 p.m., police said the windows of four parked vehicles were smashed with a purse stolen from the interior of each vehicle. Each purse contained a variety of credit cards, cash and personal property.

The interior of a vehicle is not a safe place to store valuables, particularly if they are visible from the exterior, police said.

"Determined thieves who target specific locations such as fitness clubs are prepared to smash windows for highly prized items such as purses, wallets, laptop computers," Hatboro Police Sgt. James Petrik said. "If it is absolutely necessary to store valuables in a vehicle, lock them in a trunk or an area not readily visible from the exterior of the vehicle."

Anyone who observed any suspicious vehicles or people near the Hatboro Area YMCA during the time of this incident is asked to call the Hatboro Police at 215-675-2832.

Come on people. What do you think is going to happen?!? Yes. In a perfect world, nobody would steal or break into our cars, but some responsibility has to rest on the shoulders of the people leaving their valuables in plain view.

Exactly. Just lock your purse in the trunk.

Cannot believe you are blaming victims. . No, I don't believe that the responsibly belongs to anyone other than the person who broke into the cars. Sure better decisions could have been made, but no one is to blame but the jerk who broke into the cars and stole the items.

Typical feminist view. Women and never at fault for anything. Any criticism or blame assigned to women is automatically lableled sexist and "picking on women".

Stupid is as Stupid does. Time and time again people leave valuables in plain sight in their cars and the stuff ends up getting stolen. iPhones, laptops, purses, etc. It happens so often that Upper Moreland was considering an township ordinance requiring all park cars be locked when unattended. Of course in this instance locked doors didn't matter. But nothing would have happened if these people had enough sense not to leave the items out in open and easily in view.

I hope someone breaks into your house and steals your valuables your fault for leaving them in plain site through the window of your locked property. Think before you speak Gilbert - who said it wasn't a bunch of females breaking into cars - the country is a mess because we constantly are protecting the criminals! Unbelievable you people would even speak that way!! I am ashamed you call yourselves human beings.

I, too sometimes lock my purse in the car, sometimes it is safer there, but I hide it underneath something or put it in the trunk. Bottom line is, not right to take another's property.
