UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit by Car, Killed in Horsham

The female was killed on Easton Road shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday.

A female was struck by a Lincoln Town Car and killed Friday night on southbound Easton Road, near the back entrance to the Horsham Corporate Center, across from Girard Avenue, police confirmed.

The woman, identified as Sharon Minnick, 50, of Pottstown, suffered severe injuries shortly after 8:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police said Minnick was wearing dark-colored clothing as she attempted to cross Easton Road.

An autopsy conducted Saturday morning confirmed that Minnick died of injuries sustained from the crash.

Police said the driver of the Lincoln Town Car stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Allen Kimmel came upon the crash moments after it happened and told Patch the driver of the striking car was visibly distraught and kept repeating, “I didn’t see her.”

Kimmel, of Horsham, comforted the driver of the striking car until police units arrived.

Nearby, the victim’s “mangled” body lay on the ground and bystanders could tell the woman was already deceased, Kimmel said.

A witness to the crash told Kimmel they saw the sedan change lanes and enter the shoulder, where the woman was walking, just before the incident. The claim was not something police said they could comment on until the investigation was completed.

Officials from the county coroners office were called to the scene of the deadly crash to retrieve the body, Horsham authorities said.

Firefighters and fire police assisted police at the scene and closed down Easton Road between Maple Avenue and Meetinghouse Road.

Friday night’s crash occurred less than two blocks from Jefferson Avenue, the scene of a deadly incident in November. In that case, a 45-year-old man was attempting to cross Easton Road when he was struck by a vehicle, according to PhillyBurbs.com.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office Detective Bureau and the Horsham Township Police Department are investigating the crash. Witnesses, or people with additional information about the crash are asked to call Detective Adam Dunning of the Horsham Police at 215-643-8284.

How come the comment made to Kimmel was "quoted" It was second hand hearsay. The person who saw that should be the one to tell it!

Jeanette,
Quotes were used because the driver said that to Mr. Kimmel.

I cross by car at this area & it's scary - due to the park & the many businesses that have developed here - I hope that they consider a light. As you mention this is not the 1st fatality, not to mention general auto accidents .

I was driving down Easton Road right before the crash occurred. I made a righthand turn onto Maple Avenue and a police officer was getting ready to block off the traffic between Horsham Road and Maple Avenue. I saw all of the lights from the police cars and fire trucks.

Ofcourse the driver was distraught..weird thing for luveerin to say...shouldnt he be? It was an unfortunate accident...but what was she doing walking in the street with all dark clothes and crossing not in a crosswalk...in the streeet in a very dark area...makes no sense...if I was walking i would not be in the street all dark where no one can see you....and wearing alll black....I pray for her and her family..and I pray for the driver..he has to live with this the rest of his life ...what a awful thing to happen to both people.

I know the driver personally and he was actually on the way to my house to visit my son. I feel horrible for the Woman and her family. The Resuraunt she works at across the Street makes the employees park across 611 and makes them cross here to get to work because of parking (despite a light here and being very dark). This driver is a good guy who was a suburban one all star football player that graduated from Upper Moreland. I know he feels horrible about this but I am telling you this is a very nice and respectable young man.

Hi Jim,
Just following up on your comment here and the email that you sent to me. I called the restaurant that you mentioned and was told that the woman did not work there. I also asked about the claim that workers have to park on the other side of the street and cross Easton Road --- and was told that that was not correct either.

I just herad she may have not been an emplyee here? Again I feel bad for this woman and my condolances go out to her family. Does anyone know why she was out on this busy 4 lane highway?

Pedestrians are just as responsible as drivers. Crossing a major roadway in the pitch black of night while wearing dark clothing is NOT using your street smarts. My heart goes out to the driver, the woman, and her family.

It is true that on a Friday night many people do park across the street from that restaurant. I see cars parked along the the road/driveway off of 611 that leads to the Horsham Athletic Club on Friday evenings. So, maybe she was a patron of the restaurant walking to her car and not an employee. In any case it is very dangerous to cross or walk on 611 in the dark and a very tragic accident.

Sharon was walking to the bus stop miss diana. So plz dont ask what was she doing out there. And if you must know she is a wonderful woman who spent her days and nights taking damn good care of her elderly father who lives in the vicinity. Thank you. Ive walked in the street up there to catch the bus before and it is very dangerous. Daytime, nightime, whatever. Drivers speeding all the time. Bottomline slow down please. Where are you in a hurry to get to anyway.

First of all Laketa I wasnt asking why she was there...read the sentence..I was asking why was she there dressed all in dark ..walking on a highway in the dark. The reason it is so dangerouse is because it is a highway..speed limit is 45 and as far as I know the driver was not speeding. It also seems like the bus stop is up further. Second I was not saying anything bad against her...I am sure she was a wonderful person and will be very much missed. Since you yourself has walked this area, then you must know the importance of being seen...it is your resonsibilty as a pedistrian to make sure the drivers can see you.

Diana, I dont know if you will ever see this but if you do you need to understand that Sharon was walking to the bus stop in the shoulder. The question is why was the driver driving on the shoulder?

Candice...It was my understanding she was crossing the street...footprints were found marking her path. Also the shoulder of the street is made for drivers..for emergency reasons. Pedistrians should walk in the grass away from traffic.

I think it's awful that there are two pictures of this poor woman laying dead on the side of the road. It is very obvious her hand is sticking out from under the sheet. Her poor family and friends. Great way to respect the dead Patch.

To Diana Crim so you telling me that its ok to put a bus stop where there is nothing but high grass there ticks and all just get there at your own risk would you walk in tick infested high grass or would you walk on the shoulder like any other human being im being real here no side walk but a bus stop people have been walking to that bus stop for years that guy was in a hurry tried to go around the traffic on the shoulder where my cuzzin was walking she was in the shoulder already he switched lanes to the shoulder and hit her and killed my cuzzin now what are you in the shoulder for number 1 going that fast so you do the math Diana Crim and tell me was he driving recklace or not and if it clears up your first of alls and your understanding and another thing you can`t tell us to relax when this guy straight killed her it wasn`t her time he took her life god excepted her early with open arms because she was going to him anyway so if you think she wasnt suppose to be there ask the township and Septa why was there a bus stop that was unsafe for people to walk to and get at me with the answer because id love to hear it
