Pedestrian Crossings Planned for Power Line Trail

Horsham Township Council applies to PennDOT for flashing warning devices.

When the PECO Power Line Trail is extended to include land currently occupied by , crossing the busy Babylon Road should be easier - and safer. 

The Horsham Township Council, during its meeting on Wednesday, unanimously approved submitting permits to PennDOT seeking permission for flashing warning devices and pedestrian crossings at Babylon Road and the power line trail; and Babylon Road and Gregory Drive. 

Township Manager Bill Walker said the four-lane intersection will have sidewalks along Babylon Road and the flashing devices will make crossing the road safer for families and young children expected to use the route.

The power line trail extension is part of a r. Walker said the developer, Cutler Homes, will foot the bill for the signals and Horsham will own and maintain it.

"The developer can not apply for them, the municipality must apply for them," Walker said, regarding why the council took action.

In other business, the council approved an amended a final land development plan for 501 Horsham Road, the site of a planned Verizon office building, according to the property owner. Since the plan was approved in October 2008, the owner removed a building and Walker said an amended plan was needed to show that change.
