It's a community-wide celebration that's simply too big to be held in one venue. That's why Horsham Day festivities - from fishing, to bouncing, to running and more - will be scattered in three township parks.

"Our Horsham Day is a true community event," said organizer Mary Dare, of the annual event which first began more than 40 years ago. "We don’t have rides, but the bounce items certainly keep the kids busy."

Who needs rides when the township offers practically every type of recreational activity possible?

Packed from morning to night, the daylong activities begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K walk/run, pick up steam with live music, games, inflatables for kids, a car show, pony rides, a petting zoo, and a Horsham version of TV game shows "Minute to Win It," and "Deal or No Deal," culminating with a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. 

Between 5,000 and 8,000 people attend Horsham Day for various festivities, including hot air balloon rides, Civil War living historians and sports tournaments, including a youth fishing contest.

Fishing has been a mainstay for more than 30 years, said Dare. 

"The kids of all ages absolutely love it," she said in an email. "Amazing fish get caught every year."

Among other special events at Horsham Day is “Cruise,” a car show also open to trucks and motorcycles, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Keith Valley Road, between Horsham and Davis Grove roads. Trophies and plaques will be awarded at 1 p.m.

The Horsham Fire Company will hold an open house from noon to 4 p.m. and miniature golf will be available at the nearby community center from noon to 6 p.m.

Presented by Horsham Township and the Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce, the annual event takes place in three township parks - Carpenter, Deep Meadow and Kohler - and at the township’s municipal complex, 1025 Horsham Road, all within one-third of a mile. Free parking and shuttle bus service will be available from the parking lots of the Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road; Simmons Elementary School, 411 Babylon Road; and in the Babylon Business Campus, Horsham Road, between Babylon Road and Caredean Drive.

In reality, one full day may not be enough for all that Horsham has to showcase. Activities actually kick off the night before, June 1, with a plant swap from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the township community center in the municipal complex and bingo, also at the community center beginning at 7:15 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 for bingo. Cost for 16 games is $10; $7 for children.
