Could Outages Impact Horsham Polling Places?

With power outages still rampant in Horsham Township and the Nov. 6 election a matter of days away, locals may be wondering not just whom to cast a vote for, but where to do it. 

At least for now, none of the county's polling places have changed, according to Montgomery County Spokesman Frank Custer. But, he told Patch that it's "a really fluid situation" which could continue to evolve. 

The Montgomery County Board of Elections has begun delivering machines to some of its 435 polling locales, Custer said. The job, at the moment, is "ascertaining which ones have power and which ones are open," he said.

"We are delivering the voting machines to places that we know are open," Custer said. 

All of the machines must be delivered by the day before the election on Monday, Custer said. 

"If there’s an absolute emergency and it has to be moved we can move it," Custer said adding that polling relocations would be carried out "on an as-needed basis."

"We’re not going to make a decision prematurely," Custer said.

Custer said he has not heard of any structural damages at polling places, but said some are still without power. 

, Township Manager Bill Walker said outages are scattered and he did not know which, if any, of the township's polling places were lacking power. 

"We would just be waiting for the board of elections, the county to tell us what would happen," Walker said, referring to any potential polling place changes. "The county would have to do that."

During a tour of the Horsham area Wednesday with Gov. Tom Corbett, State Rep. Tom Murt (R-152) and State Sen. Stewart Greenleaf, State Rep. Todd Stephens (R-151) of Horsham said that in talking to crews working on power restorations, "PECO assured the Governor all polling places would have electricity on Tuesday."
