Blair Mill Elementary Staff Rallies for Kids of Late Secretary

Jan. 20 fundraiser set to support children of Hatboro-Horsham School District secretary who lost her fight to cancer.

Blair Mill Elementary School educators are teaming up to help the children of a Hatboro-Horsham School District employee who lost her courageous fight to a rare form of breast cancer in late December.

Lisa Giardetti, who worked as a secretary at Keith Valley Middle School, battled cancer for two years after she was diagnosed in 2009. Giardetti died Dec. 20, leaving behind her sons, 13-year-old Nickolas and 10-year-old Anthony.

After learning about the tragedy that befell the Giardetti family, a group of Blair Mill teachers sprang into action by creating the group, Leaders for Lisa, which is holding a fundraiser in her honor on Jan. 20 at the Blair Mill Inn, 3855 Blair Mill Road in Horsham. Money raised from the event, which begins at 6 p.m. that night, will benefit Giardetti's children.

Susanna Kiss, an organizer of the Lisa Giardetti & Sons fundraiser event, said Leaders for Lisa is hoping to raise $10,000 by holding a buffet-style dinner and basket raffle.

“It is a nice way for our community to come together to celebrate a wonderful mother and friend, and support her two awesome boys,” Kiss said.

Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased in advance for $40 or the night of the benefit for $45. If you are interested in attending or learning more about the benefit, contact Kiss at skiss@hatboro-horsham.org.

I'm so proud of my friends at Blair Mill. What a wonderful event they're organizing for a special cause. It really shows how much teachers care beyond the classroom instruction.
