Hatboro-Horsham High School is seeking qualified professionals from engineering and architectural firms to bring real-world relevance to the school's brand new engineering program.
Starting this spring with an enrollment of 40 students, the course is designed to teach theoretical math and science topics that can be applied to real-world situations encountered every day in engineering and architectural professions.
"We are looking for enthusiastic professionals who can share their passion for engineering or architecture with students," said Joe Grady, a former engineer who is teaching the course. "These people could either visit our classroom to co-teach important math and science topics as they relate to engineering fields, or allow our students to visit their place of business to be given an in-depth look at what engineers do every day."
The call for the involvement of area professionals grew out of a visit made last year to Maida Engineering, Inc. in Fort Washington. Students toured the facility and learned about some of the company's innovative projects, including the CBS Mobile Weather Unit.
"The students got a real feel for what engineers do for a living and really enjoyed the field trip. We're hoping to provide more of these types of experiences for students and that's why we are reaching out to area professionals," said Mr. Grady. "These relationships are so important for students who want to get a head start on their careers."
Professionals who are interested in getting involved are invited to contact Grady at (215) 420-5568 or jgrady@hatboro-horsham.org for more information.
Hatboro-Horsham High School is located at 899 Horsham Road in Horsham.
