Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce event helps 100 local women in need
Tickets are now available for the 20th Annual Gourmet Getaway:Cuisine for a Cause, Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Spring Mill Manor, 171Jacksonville Road in Ivyland.
Tickets are only $45 to sample food and drink from 25 of Bucks’ finest caterers, restaurants andwineries, plus raffles, silent auctions and live music. (Blocks of 10 tickets are offered at $400.)
All to help local women in need.
Sponsored by the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business (WIB)Committee, the Gourmet Getaway raise funds for WIB Scholarships.
In the past two decades, the fund has provided more than $270,000 to 100 local women whoovercame substantial challenges to make a better life for themselves and their families.Recent scholarship winners include:
A woman who grew up in the foster care system, earned her cosmetology license andnow wants to break the circle of broken homes for others by finishing her degree in socialservice.
Another, caught in the economic downturn, who holds a full-time day job plus anotherjob five nights a week, goes to school and is a wife and mother.A third who earned her practical nursing degree and continues to study to be a medicalassistant or phlebotomist, while homeschooling her youngest son and inspiring her olderson to complete his GED.
Yet another who transformed her life from being a teenage mom and high school dropoutaddicted to drugs to a married, hard-working mother of three with a desire to pay it forward.

The Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Scholarships are to assistswomen who have overcome substantial challenges and wish to re-enter the workforce byeducating themselves. Scholarships are awarded to Bucks County women at least 25 years orolder, U.S. citizens, beginning or continuing their education, who can demonstrate educationalmerit and financial need. One hundred percent of the proceeds are distributed directly to theaccredited institution the recipient will be attending. These strong, courageous women needthe financial support to help them achieve their career goals and help them gain personal andprofessional success.
